A Father's Hug
Share
I blessed two men in their late 20’s or 30’s. They presented for prayer for one thing but really needed another. I released a father’s blessing over them, one at a time. Wet eyes, mine too, as the Father’s love hit them. I hugged one of them for a long time. Afterwards he said to me “All my life I wanted a father’s hug.”
While in Pakistan recently I spoke to a large women’s home group. I honoured them, sharing that their work in caring for their family was just as important for the Kingdom of God as the work of an evangelist. Then I did the father’s blessing and stepped them into the Father’s love. Then I said I was available for hugs. Slowly at first, then one by one, till time was up, they came for a hug. Most wept, some were shaking with tears. This in a culture where men and boys sit one side of the church and women and girls on the other.
I think “fatherlessness” is perhaps the greatest issue of our times. The father-wound is everywhere and affects our ability to receive and give love, to God and to others.
