Week 44: The Drive That Changed Everything

The road was long, narrow, and covered in dust as we travelled through the Indian state of Odisha. Villages passed slowly outside the window while our young driver carefully guided the car along the uneven track.

At first, the journey was quiet. Then, as often happens on long roads, conversation began to open hearts.

Almost casually, the young man mentioned his wife.

But within moments, his voice changed. His words slowed, and emotion crept in. As he continued driving, tears began to fill his eyes.

His wife was pregnant — only two months along — but she was seriously unwell. Doctors had discovered a uterine infection. She had been given daily tablets and weekly injections, yet the doctor had spoken cautiously.

“I will try my best,” he had told them. “But I cannot promise she will be healed.”
The young husband was frightened. Every day he watched his wife grow weaker, unsure what the future held for her or their unborn child.

Inside the car, the atmosphere grew heavy.

Beulah and I listened quietly. Then we shared something simple — something we had seen change many lives.

We spoke to him about the power God has placed in our words, and about blessing.
“Each morning,” we suggested gently, “place your hands on your wife and bless her. Speak life over her body in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Do it every day — and trust God.”

We prayed together before the journey ended.

We wished we could have given him The Awesome Power of Blessing in his own language, but none was available. All we had was an English copy he could barely read. Still, he took it gratefully.

And he did exactly what we had encouraged him to do.
Every morning, he placed his hands on his wife and blessed her.

Day after day.

Quietly.

Faithfully.

Two months later we returned to the same region. Once again, the same young man arrived to drive us.

But this time he was different.

Before we even reached the car, he hurried toward us, smiling broadly. He embraced us with great joy, hardly able to contain himself.

“My wife is healed!” he said.

The infection had disappeared. The doctor had stopped all medication. Even the doctor admitted he could not explain it.

And the pregnancy was continuing normally. His wife was now four months pregnant and growing stronger each day.

When we later visited their home, the couple welcomed us warmly and honoured us with a shawl — a gesture of deep gratitude in their culture.

But the real change was not only physical healing.

Fear had been replaced by peace.

Helplessness had been replaced by faith.

On a dusty road, a worried husband had learned to speak blessing instead of fear — and life followed his words.
