Week 53: A Mother Healed from Words That Wounded

In a gathering connected to a children’s blessing conference, a mother named Ibra shared a powerful testimony of healing.
“I lack the words to express my gratitude to God,” she began,
“and to your missionary team who came all this way with such a powerful message.”

For many years, she had suffered from serious heart problems.
“I received treatment for several years,” she explained,
“but nothing brought a solution.”

Yet her physical condition was only part of the story.
Deep inside, she carried wounds from her childhood.
“I have two children,” she said,
“but I did not love them the way I should have—because of the wounds I received from my own mother.”

Then she shared the words that had marked her life:
“One day, my mother shouted at me,
‘YOU WILL NEVER BE A GOOD MOTHER BECAUSE YOU ARE LAZY.’”

Those words stayed with her for sixteen long years.
“They affected me deeply,” she said.
“I lost confidence in myself, and in my heart I kept repeating,
‘I am not a good mother.’”

During the children’s conference, as she listened to the teaching about the power of words—that words can bless or curse, build or destroy—something began to shift inside her.
“I realised that I was hurting myself with my own words.”

But then something even more intense happened.
“During the conference, I began to feel a very strong pain in my heart… then I felt like I was suffocating.”
The pain became so severe that she had to leave the room.
“I went outside to cry,” she said,
“and there, I began to bless myself.”

In that moment, everything began to change.
“I spoke positively over my life.
I declared that I am a good mother.
I chose to forgive my mother.”

What followed was remarkable.
“I thank you for this program that teaches young hearts,” she said.
“May God strengthen you. I will not miss the next conference you organise.”

Then she shared the breakthrough:
“I feel healed from the heart problems that caused me so much suffering.”

What years of treatment could not resolve,
a moment of truth, forgiveness, and spoken blessing began to heal.

Reflection:
What words are you still carrying—and what new words will you choose to speak?
